ADRO Makes Submission to the Victorian 2026 Fires Inquiry
The Australian Disaster Recovery Organisation (ADRO) has lodged a detailed submission to the Victorian Parliamentary Inquiry into the 2026 Summer Bushfires, calling for a significant shift in Victoria's approach to disaster resilience and preparedness.
Drawing on operational experience supporting disaster-affected communities and the development of practical resilience initiatives, ADRO's submission argues that many of the failures witnessed during the 2026 fire season were not the result of a lack of knowledge, but rather a failure to implement solutions that have long been identified through previous inquiries.
VOLUNTEER STORIES
"I Came To Help. I Left With A New Perspective."
When Emma, a university student from Melbourne, first registered to volunteer with the Australian Disaster Recovery Organisation, she expected to spend a weekend helping repair storm damage on a regional property.
She quickly discovered the experience would be far more rewarding than she had imagined.
Working alongside local farmers, fellow volunteers and community members, Emma helped clear fallen timber, repair damaged fencing and prepare paddocks following severe weather that had affected the region.
"It wasn't just about fixing fences," she says.
